In her book The Fearless Organization, Amy Ferguson does a great job explaining the importance of Psychological Safety in the Workplace.
Creating a psychologically safe workplace requires leadership. For people to feel comfortable speaking and out and sharing information and ideas they have, they need to trust they will be heard and their voice matters. Leader behaviors determine if employees feel like it is worth it to speak up.
Are you open and receptive to new information even if it isn’t what you want to hear?
Or do you shut people down when you hear something you disagree with? Chances are your business can’t afford to shut people down.
The next time someone offers a suggestion, or details about a situation at work, thank them for sharing their thoughts with you.
Let them know their voice counts!
Amy’s book is available on Amazon. I highly recommend it!
